Events in 2008
The Open Day last September to celebrate Heritage Open Days was successful once again with a constant flow of visitors. The visit of “Henry VIII” and his many wives by water from his palace at Hampton Court undoubtedly drew the crowds as did his meeting with the Mayor and Mayoress of Woking. See below for photographs by Norman Johns.
There will now be no further Open Days until 17th/18th May 2008 when the site will open to celebrate Local History Month (which will run from 1st May to 5th June). The site will open again on 12th/13th July during National Archaeology Week and on 13th/14th September during Heritage Open Days. As in previous years a conducted walk around the village (including St Peter’s church) and on to the Palace site will take place on both the Saturday and Sunday of the three weekends. Please see this site and local media for further details nearer the time.
Following the HLF grant to improve the presentation and interpretation of the site, it is hoped that some of the improvements will be in place when the site reopens for Local History Week in May 2008. |
