A Reconstruction of the Palace as it might have been
The picture of the Palace shown on John Norden’s Map of Woking Park of 1607 whilst obviously not an accurate representation of the buildings, does bear some relation to the foundations that exist today, for example the gate house, the Queen’s gallery, the Great Hall and the King’s Hall.
The sketch shown here is an archaeological artist’s reconstruction of the Palace as it was during the Tudor period. From this it is possible to see that the buildings occupied a very considerable area of the site indicating the Palace was of considerable importance. This image must NOT be reproduced without the permission of the artist, Kelvin Wilson.
Appendix B to the Guide to Woking Palace which shows an extract from the King’s Works refers to 57 lodgings, by no means all the rooms in the buildings. |
