2015 Archaeological Dig - Week 3

Work was concentrated on the gatehouse trench and the moat trench. The trench near the Great Hall and the trench near the standing building had flooded areas, but work continued in the drier parts and a new medieval wall was uncovered.

In the gatehouse trench the fireplace revealed an earlier tile-on-edge hearth beneath the bricks. The return wall on the massive flint medieval wall was discovered.

The moated trench revealed a large medieval wall, but as on much of the site, there was considerable disturbance of the ground.
